C. Wayne Wert, 83, of 92 Barton St., Lock Haven, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at his home.
He was born in Lock Haven on May 24, 1935, the son of the late Albert H. and Martha G. Bartholomew Wert.
On September 1, 1956 in Malden, Massachusetts, Wayne married the former Margaret L. “Peggy” LeBlanc, whom preceded him in death December 3, 2017.
Wayne was a 1953 graduate of Lock Haven High School and remained actively involved their monthly class gatherings.
He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War.
Wayne was employed at Hammermill Paper Company then Piper Aircraft before opening C. Wayne’s Body Shop of Lock Haven which he operated for several years. He then worked as a Correction’s Officer at the Rockview State Correctional Institution until his retirement. Wayne was currently employed at the Central Pennsylvania Auto Auction of Mill Hall.
He was a member of the First Church of Christ of Lock Haven where he was currently serving as an Elder.
Wayne enjoyed hunting and was a car enthusiast. In his retirement years, he was a loyal patron at the Castanea Train Station. Beyond all, he was a proud and loyal family man and cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Timothy (Amy) Wert of Dallstown, Daniel (Sabrina) Wert of Pleasant Gap and Peter (Bree) Wert of Lock Haven; a daughter, Pamela (William) Herman of Lock Haven; a sister, Frances “Kitty” Barton of Massachusetts; 14 grandchildren; 18 grandchildren, with another expected; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Albert H. Wert, Jr.
A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Lock Haven First Church of Christ, 330 N. Vesper St., Lock Haven, PA 17745.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lock Haven First Church of Christ.
