Doodie Rathgeber Obituary

Gary “Doodie” Rathgeber, 73, of Mill Hall, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at his home. Born April 25, 1946 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Wayne and Sonnia Zimmerman Rathgeber. Doodie was a 1964 graduate of Lock Haven High School and served in the United States National Guard. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ.

Doodie was employed at Hammermill Paper Company and later International Paper, being one of the last employees remaining before their closure. He then worked at First Quality.

Doodie was a longtime member of Belle Springs Golf Course and was an avid golfer. When golfing was not an option, he liked playing cards with his friends at the Clinton County Community Center. Doodie was an outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, boating, camping and bird watching. He loved playing baseball in his youth and sports long into his adult life. He enjoyed watching sports, especially Penn State football, and he was also a voracious reader. He was happiest taking care of the yard and living at his beloved cabin by the creek.

Doodie touched everyone he met and will be remembered with laughter and high regard by all.

Doodie is survived by his wife, Anita Rathgeber of Mill Hall, and his three children: Wayne “Doodie” Rathgeber of Greensburg, Jodi (Randy) Reeder of Mill Hall and Stephanie (Matt) Zerby of Flemington; three grandchildren: Cole and Trey Reeder and Kendalyn “Sunshine” Zerby; four siblings: Deanna (Will) Rall of Woolrich, Bonnie Packer of Washington, B.J. (Bob) Emert of Woolrich and Julie Sheetz of Lock Haven; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other extended family.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Davey Jones. Doodie was not only his older brother, but his best friend and devoted caretaker for 20 years. His commitment to his brother was beyond description.

A private Celebration of Life will take place at the convenience of his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doodie’s name may be made to either Belle Springs Golf Course or the Clinton County Community Center through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa 17745.
