Janet A. Miller, 93, formerly of Lock Haven passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019 in Florida. Janet spent the past five years in Florida, first, living with her daughter, Cheryl, in Wildwood, Fl., and later at Mission Oaks Senior Living Facility in Oxford, Fl.
Born December 31, 1925 in Tyrone, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Clyde A. and Josephine DeLong Rossman.
On May 17, 1941 she married Reed T. Miller with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2001.
During WWII, Janet traveled on the train from Tyrone, Pa. to Philadelphia to work as a blue print coordinator during the building of the Battleship Missouri (known as the “Mighty MO”) while her husband, Reed, was away serving in the Army Air Corp. stationed in Britain.
Janet owned Janet’s Restaurant, located on Main Street in Lock Haven, for 20 years. She also worked at Lock Haven University’s Bentley Dining Hall for 27 years before retiring.
She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Wildwood, Fl.
Janet was an avid quilt maker and made quilts for everyone in the family as well as many friends and neighbors. She also loved to garden, sew and crochet. Her father-in-law, Reed Miller, Sr., got her interested in reading books and she became a voracious reader especially fond of westerns.
Surviving are three children: William D. Miller of Mill Hall, James A. Miller of Avis and Cheryl Boring of Wildwood, Fl.; her sister, Mary DuBois of Florida who turned 100 years old in 2018; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and ten great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Reeder and two brothers, Francis and Paul Rossman.
Private interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery, Tyrone, Pa. at the convenience of her family.
