John McLean Obituary

John William “Bill” McLean, 92, of Lizardville Rd., Mill Hall, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019.

He was born in Lock Haven on December 16, 1926, the son of the late William J. and Dorothy E. Gordon McLean.

Bill was a graduate of Lock Haven High School and completed his training in refrigeration at the Williamsport Technical Institute.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army having been stationed in the Philippines during the Korean War where he worked as a refrigeration specialist.

On August 25, 1949, Bill married the former JoAnn Roberta Shearer who preceded him in death on June 3, 2006.

Bill retired as a machinist from Hammer Paper Company after many years of service.

He continued his trade as a machinist and handyman into his retirement years - constructing and fixing all sorts of items. He was an avid outdoorsmen, enjoying hunting and fishing, especially his hunting trips out west. In his later years, he looked forward to going on rides and to yard sales with his children. Most of all, Bill loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by four children, Barbara (Melvin) Crigler of Pittsburgh, John Phillip McLean of Williamsport, Jenny A. (Jeff) Karchner of South Williamsport, and Brooks J. McLean of Loganton; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Jessica, Megan, Gillian and Madison; and four great grandchildren, Lily, Alexander, Tatum, and Payton.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, James R. McLean; and a sister, Dorothy M. Herr.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 10 A.M. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M.

Private burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Clinton County Veteran’s Affairs.
