John Roller Obituary

Rosemary Carol Roller passed away October 6, 2018 in Winston Salem, N.C. with her family by her side.

She was the daughter of Joe and Mary Dangle Derr of Woolrich.

Born February 13, 1937 in Lycoming County. When she was eight, her family moved to Clinton County where her father was employed by Woolrich Mills.

She attended Woolrich Elementary and Lock Haven High School.

In 1956 she married Paul Gates who passed away in January 1977.

In June 1983 she married John Roller at the Woolrich United Methodist Church.

John Arthur Roller passed away November 4, 2018 in Winston Salem, N.C.

He was the son of John and Anna McCloskey Roller.

Born June 5, 1936 in Reynoldsville, at the age of two, his family moved to Lock Haven where his father farmed and operated a greenhouse.

John attended the one room schoolhouse in Dunnstown and graduated from Lock Haven High School, where he played football, in 1954.

In June 1955 John joined the United State Navy, serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. He proudly served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy in June 1976 after 21 years of service and having earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During this time, Rosemary resided in Saxonburg.

After John retired from the Navy, they moved back to Lock Haven where they both were involved in buying and selling antiques. John was employed by the State of Pennsylvania in the Employment Office.

John was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.

In 2005 they moved to Winston Salem, N.C.

They both are survived by Rosemary’s children: Debra (Gene) Brewer of Hinesville, GA, Paul (Toni) Gates of Akron, OH, and son, Jim (Karina) Gates of Orangeville; Rosemary’s sister, Lois of Florida; Rosemary’s brothers: Lester Derr of Lock Haven, Donald Derr of Centre Hall and Edward Derr of Avis; John’s son, John Charles Roller of Vista, CA; John’s brother, Robert (Jane) Roller of Lock Haven; John’s niece, Wendy (Dave) Quinn; John’s nephew, George (Kelly) Roller; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one grandniece; and two grandnephews.

A Memorial Service to honor both John and Rosemary will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington with Pastor Larry Siikanen officiating. Burial will follow at Dunnstown Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions in John & Rosemary’s name may be made to Trellis Supportive Care Hospice of Winston Salem, North Carolina through the funeral home.
