Robert M. Deem
Bob Deem, 98, of Flemington, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019.
He was born in Dunnstown on February 28, 1920 to the late Roy Deem and Catherine Marshall Deem.
A 1937 graduate of Lock Haven High School, he obtained his degree in teaching from Lock Haven Teachers College in 1941 and his masters from Penn State University in 1951.
He served as a Pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II before transferring to the U.S. Naval Reserves where he retired with the rank of Commander.
On May 26, 1945 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, he married the former Marie J. Bisson, whom preceded him in death on February 26, 1999.
He taught at Lock Haven Junior High School for 36 years until his retirement in 1980.
He was a longtime member of Belles Springs Golf Course - golfing his final round this past season at the age of 98. He was a member of the Lock Haven Elks Lodge.
His enthusiasm for flying began as a teenager and continued through his adulthood. As an accomplished pilot, he worked for Piper Aircraft delivering planes to their customers throughout the northeast.
He is survived by his son, David R. Deem of Washington, D.C.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen M. Deem; and his companion, Gilda “Gee” Wise.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 6 to 8p.m. at the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, PA 17745.
Private interment will take place at Dunnstown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Belles Springs Golf Course.
