Sandra Cryder Obituary

Sandra L. Cryder, 62, of McElhattan passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born April 25, 1956 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Oren Butler and Lois Perry.

She was raised by Carl Dick and the late Edna Perry Dick, who she knew as mom and dad from the age of 3.

After graduating from Lock Haven High School in 1974, she attended nursing school at Centre Community Hospital, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Sandy worked as a nurse at Divine Providence Hospital and then Lock Haven Hospital. Later she managed the Eagle Wing Snack Bar at Lock Haven University and then the cafeteria at Brodart in McElhattan.

On February 26, 1977, she married her love, Tom W. Cryder, with whom she shared 41 wonderful years of marriage.

Sandy was a member of Cedar Heights Brethren in Christ Church and was a devout Christian. Her faith and positivity always remained strong, even throughout her illness.

She enjoyed watching “I Love Lucy”, Penn State football, was obsessed with Winnie the Pooh’s Tigger, and loved all things Christmas- especially Hallmark Christmas movies.

Sandy loved her cats, Si and Lucy, and her dog, Missy.

She cherished the time she spent with her family- especially her grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do with them was play Monopoly Towers, in which most of the time she won.

Along with her husband, Tom Cryder of McElhattan, she is survived by her daughter, Colleen (Nate) Miller of Lock Haven; three grandchildren: Brice, Ava and Lola Miller; her dad, Carl Dick of Loganton; and five siblings: Oren Butler, Frank (Judy) Butler of Lock Haven, Shirley Ilgen of Loganton, Bonnie Brush of Bellefonte, Fred (Mae) Dick of Loganton and Janice Baily of Avis; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her birth parents and mother Edna Perry Dick, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Dick, nephew Frankie Ilgen, father in law, Howard (Bud) Cryder, brother in law, Frank (Russell) Ilgen, beloved friend Frank Meskell, and her dog Snuggles (Snuggies).

Sandy will be remembered for her heart of gold and the smiles she put on other’s faces.

A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Cedar Heights Brethren in Christ Church, 37 Cedar Heights, Mill Hall with Rev. Scott Garman officiating.
