Gladys K. Conklin, 90, of State College, formerly of Pine Grove Mills, died Thursday, July 8, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
She was born July 18, 1930, in Spruce Creek, the daughter of the late Guy A. and Gladys C. Randolph Kocher. On July 5, 1950, she married George R. Conklin, Jr. in Elkton, Md., who preceded her in death July 8, 1983.
Gladys was a 1948 graduate of State College High School. She was first employed as a secretary at Penn State University before moving to Lock Haven after her marriage. After raising her young children, she was employed at Crissman's Meat Packing Plant, the Rockview State Correctional Facility, and the State College Area School District.
She was an avid sports fan, supporting her childrens' and grandchildrens' athletic endeavors. She loved to watch Penn State football and wrestling, as well as her beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. She enjoyed traveling and eating out with her siblings, as well as scenic Sunday drives. "Gram" will mostly be remembered for her devotion and sacrifice to ensuring the happiness of all those who touched her life.
Gladys is survived by three sons, Edward L.(Patti Barrett) of Pine Grove Mills and Paul W.(Kathie) and George R. III of Lock Haven, two daughters, Mary Jo (Dennis) Hayes of Pine Grove Mills and Suzanne C.(John) Hanna of Mill Hall, two brothers Paul(Thiery) Kocher of Centre Hall, Reed(Janny) Kocher of Pine Grove Mills, two sisters, Faye King and Kate(Gary) Shuey, both of Bellefonte, 15 grandchildren, Edward Jr., Erica, Kristen, Kevin, Bryan, Jon, Cynthia, George IV, Katie, Julianne, Whitney, John Jr., Zachary, Elijah, and Trevor, 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Jean Kocher and Mary Walker, three brothers, Robert("Chob"), William and Guy Kocher, and a daughter-in-law, Lila Jean Conklin.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 11:00 A.M., at the Faith United Methodist Church in Castanea with her nephew the Pastor Rick Conklin officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
