Joyce Ann Shelly Karichner, 80, of Lamar passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born September 4, 1940 in Williamsburg, she was the daughter of the late Daniel G. and Leona Nash Shelly.
After graduating from Williamsburg High School, she earned her teaching degree from Lock Haven State College.
Joyce began her teaching career at the one-room schoolhouse in Orviston before continuing her teaching career with Keystone Central School District at Woolrich and Woodward Elementary Schools. After retiring, she became a hostess on bus trips with Susquehanna Trailways and enjoyed driving truck with her life partner, Charles (Buck) Seyler.
Joyce was a member of the former Flemington Lockettes Drill Team and a majorette instructor beside Patricia Bickle.
She was a performer, both dancing and singing in the Off-BEN Avenue Follies.
Joyce was an avid Bingo player who enjoyed traveling and especially taking bus trips to the casinos.
In addition to her love, Charles "Buck" Seyler of Mill Hall, she is survived by two children, Paul L. Karichner (Beth Slegle) of Salladasburg and Kori L. (William) Pene of East Stroudsburg; her sister, Linda Fritz of Bedford; two step-sons, Bob (Bobbi Jo) Seyler and Mike Seyler (Karen Tyndale), both of Howard; a niece, Britta (Kevin) Quick of Glenallen; and two nephews, Karl (Rachael) Fritz and Rudy (Amy) Fritz, both of Bedford.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 11:30 A.M. at the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, PA 17745 with Rev. Alan Eckenroad officiating.
Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions in Joyce's name may be made through the funeral home to the Mount Nittany Health Foundation.
