Nelson James Schrack, 90, of Lock Haven passed away Friday, November 24, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born August 14, 1933 on the family farm in Schracktown (Loganton), he was a son of the late Raymond S. and Bessie P. (Harbach) Schrack. Nelson attended Womeldorf Schoolhouse and then Sugar Valley High School, graduating in 1952. He joined the United States Air Force, and on February 11, 1954, enlisted in the Pilot Training Program, graduating June 30, 1955 after completing classes 55-Q. Nelson then pursued his Pilot Instructor certification, graduating on October 28, 1955. He served as an Aviation Training Instructor for cadets, training numerous military pilots. Nelson earned the rank of Major from the United States Air Force before retiring and joining the United States Army. Altogether, he proudly served his country for 22 years. Nelson continued in the aircraft industry, working as a Production Repair Pilot for Piper Aircraft Corp. for 23 years. He was a former member of the American Legion. Along with his wife, Beverly, he spent many winters in Florida. He "loved making sawdust," and used his talent to build kitchen cabinets for at least 29 of the homes where he resided there. Nelson was affectionately known as the "Carpenter of the Park." While in Florida, he could also be found attending many flea markets. Nelson enjoyed restoring farm tractors as well as watching his cartoon favorites, Snoopy and the Road Runner. In addition to his wife of 65 years, Beverly (Hoy) Schrack, he is survived by a sister, Leona Kemmerer of Loganton as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn and Daniel Schrack and sisters: Ruth Thompson, Mildred Trostle and Lois Imes. A Military Honor Guard Service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1 PM at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions in Nelson's name may be made to either the American Cancer Society or Williamsport North Rehabilitation Center through the funeral home.
