Thomas Karchner Obituary

On Wednesday, November 25, 2020, Thomas H. Karchner, 74, of Swissdale let go of our hands and took hold of the Master’s at The Gatehouse of UPMC, Divine Providence.

Born May 22, 1946 in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late Harold and Catherine Karchner.

Tom was a 1964 graduate of Sugar Valley High School.

He proudly served in the United States National Guard for 7 years.

Tom was employed at Piper Aircraft for two years before working at PPL Electric for 34 years, retiring in 2002.

On February 14, 1990, he married his love, Marilyn (Goodman) Karchner, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.

He was a member of Swissdale United Methodist Church.

Tom was an avid hunter and also enjoyed fishing, reading and collecting coins.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-daughters, Angela Karwowski and Yvonne Hughes, both of McElhattan; two brothers, Larry Karchner of Delaware and Mike (Mel) Karchner of Loganton; three sisters: Donna (Wayne) Hardy of Lock Haven and Fran (Scott) Kemmerer and Janet Hevner, both of Loganton; five grandchildren: Rachael Karwowski and Derek, Jonathan, Jessica and Samantha Hughes; and three great grandchildren: Emma Wenker and Paisley and Deegan Styers.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Beth Karchner and two brothers-in-law, Rick Miller and Leonard Hevner.

Per Tom’s wishes, there will be no public services. A private Graveside Service will be held at Swissdale Cemetery.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family asks that rather than visiting, please take time to pray for their family during this difficult time or mail a card. Your thoughtfulness and understanding are greatly appreciated.

Memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to Swissdale United Methodist Church, 974 E. Croak Hollow Rd., Lock Haven, Pa 17745.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington.
